I Love Your Hair.

Recently I took a small family get away trip to the DMV area (D.C. Maryland and Virginia) one of the places I visited in D.C. was the Smithsonian National American Art Museum. (Can we just say loved it!!! I can’t wait to go back to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture.   Despite that we were on a time limit (why must there be parking meters) I enjoyed the inspiration of ALL the different type of art mediums. (It was also a great fun but, educational way to get my nephew off that damn iPad! Just saying; note to self never give a 9 year old your iPad can we say games on deck ?.)

One particular piece that caught my attention was an oil and mixed media portrait called, “I Love Your Hair” by Tim Okamura. The portrait at 1st glance was a bit breathtaking. The attention to detail was impeccable. (I wish ya’ll could see her fro up close). What I loved the most about this painting was a call of action of a woman to be proud and stand tall. (Side note: my favorite quote of cliché whatever works for you is, “Be a pineapple, stand tall and wear a crown.” I know random really, but not really. No too much lol okay never mind.) Anywho the body language was so unapologetically pleasing! (Yasssssssss) When I looked at the painting I saw myself, and I seen EFFORTLESS SELF EXPRESSION. The portrait to me was such a strong empowering piece.

In all honesty the painting gave me life (inspired me.) No matter if your natural or relaxed girl where that crown! Art is so subjective, and that’s part of the reason why I love it so much. (And because I’m so complicated, ahh well I can be at times.) To me I saw more than just a woman with a dope ass fro. I seen a powerful woman who was proud to wear her crown (with her resting face, tuh werk.)

So before we depart remember male or female (never knows who will read my little post or whatever). Never listen to just anybody stand tall (that little quote is bounced all around this post) and leave your mark. No matter if it’s through beauty, art, fashion, or everyday life chronicles just do what makes you HAPPY because they will always love your hair.
