Tips to Beat Procrastination

We have all been there, some of us more often than others. We push back and delay, lollygag and lazy around only to scramble last minute to meet the deadline, or not. We feel like crap about the decisions we’ve made but can’t help repeating them again next time. Well procrastinate no more honey! I’ve learned some great simple little techniques that has helped me stray away from the procrastination bug and get my life.

  • Save all contact info to your phone. Whenever you are out and about and you make a new contact save the name to your phone that instant and make sure they have your info as well. The days are gone when I used to just tell someone to text me their name as I leave a venue and when I try and remember who they are or where I met them weeks later; I have no clue.
  • Get into the habit of glancing at emails as they come in and sorting through the important and unimportant stuff. If you have to reply to a specific email draft a quick response and save it for when you can or do you get the time to actually give a final reply.
  • When you get post mail, immediately throw out the advertisements and junk mail. Use the same method with your email. Sort through junk immediately.
  • Plan your outfits the night before. I have a hard time doing this but it literally saves the headache and a whole bunch of time trying on and tossing possibilities around.
  • Pack your bag the night before so that in the morning all you have to do is a quick double check, get dressed and leave for the day.
  • If you have a function to go to and you’ve never been to the location once you get the address save it in your phone and create a calendar event for it with the address attached. Whenever you have a new place to go always make sure that you glance at the route check for tolls and nearby areas that you may be aware of already to use as landmarks.

The main point of all these smaller actions is to make sure that while you may not have all the time during the current moment, you give yourself a head start by making little preparations right now instead of later. The way to beat procrastination is not to just do everything because if it was that simple everyone would do it. It is however getting into the mindset of taking small steps to start the process now to help you to finish it later.
What do you think of these tips and do you have anymore of your own? do you struggle with procrastination? Leave your procrastination triumph or failure below we can all learn from each other!
