DIY Natural Yoga Mat Cleaner

After all the outdoor yoga I have been doing, I have dirtied up my mat quite a bit. So I thought it would be a good idea to share my DIY Yoga mat cleansing spray. This is a recipe I learned about five years ago. Enjoy!

Why would you want  a natural cleanser? Well for one you should be cleaning your mat after every use before you roll it away. Yoga mats can trap germs and when rolled and tucked away all that is just tucked away to fester for the next time you practice. We place our whole body; hands, feet and faces on the mat, and are sometimes off and back on again depending on the sequence. If you don’t clean your mat after every use think again. This recipe is simple and includes the essential oils I discussed in my Essential Oils that are Worth the Investment.

Ingredients:

Lavender Oil

Tea Tree Oil

Witch Hazel

Distilled Water

Small spray bottle

  • I take a 50:50 ratio of Witch Hazel to distilled water and add to the clean spray bottle.
  • Add 2 drops of lavender oil
  • Finally add 2 drops of tea tree oil and shake

Just spray the yoga mat and wipe down. Allow to air dry or dry in the sun for a bit, then store your mat away as usual. And there you have it!

Notes:

**Do not add the tea tree oil first, the plastic in the spray bottle may soften in contact with the pure oil ruining the spray mechanism.

If you are making a larger batch it is okay to use ¼ witch hazel and ¾ distilled water

I prefer a glass amber or cobalt blue bottle to preserve the essential oils better but you can choose whichever you like.
