Who are you and what do you stand for?

Wow! What a loaded question. Most of us are still trying to figure out who we are. At least I am…  One thing I am most certain of is the fact that I am AWARE. I’m aware of my growth and transformation. And I am looking forward to the result of it all. I just want to be an Intellectual, Educated, Spiritual, and Conscious Black Woman.

Who in your life was the most influential in leading you to become the person you are today?

Everyone who has been in my life past or present has been influential in some way. I don’t necessarily have one role model. The women of my family are a big reason of why I am the tough cookie that I am. I’ve learned everything I know about faith in myself and God, strength, and ambition because of them.  Those are really the foundations of my life.  However, my interactions with people, whether positive or negative have enabled me to think differently and learn how to deal with different situations. It’s sort of an adaptation-influence model that I use very often. In order to succeed in this world, whether in personal relationships, professionally, or even in everyday life, you have to be able to adapt to what that environment is presenting. This way, you’ll know how to shift it in your favor and impose and influence.

Describe your personal style.

This is embarrassing…. Lol If you’re referring to a fashion style, I wouldn’t say that I have one. Which some women would consider to be pathetic, I guess. Lol  However, I do like to shop and honestly my style just depends how I’m feeling and what I think looks good on me. This isn’t just my fashion style but it is what I consider to be my lifestyle as well. I live my life on my own terms depending on what I want and how I feel at any given moment.

Who or what inspires/motivates you?

Life inspires me. I think we take the meaning and purpose of life for granted. We often forget that it is a gift. Our own life is not a gift to just ourselves but we’re supposed to live it to be a gift to someone else along the way. I just want to live life abundantly and I want to take advantage of what the world has as well as show the world what I have to offer. Everyday, life presents a chance to do something that you have never done, learn something you didn’t know, and start over if you feel like you failed.

What is your morning/night routine?

Prayer & Meditation. In the morning, before I get out of bed, I have to give God and shout out. Whether I lay there and talk to Him for 10 minutes or I give a simple word of thanks. I have to let Him know that I am grateful and that we’re about to ride another day out together.

Before, I go to bed. I meditate through writing .I take time in a quiet space or with some music and give myself an emotional check- in of my day. I write EVERYTHING down. I clear my brain so its fresh for the next day.

If you came home one day and your living room is filled from floor to ceiling with pineapples. What do would you do?

Have a party, and invite people to help me eat them…. Lol

Who are the top 3 people you follow on social media and why?

For me, social media is for connection and entertainment purposes. I don’t have a huge following, nor do I follow a crazy amount of people. In fact, I have over 100 friend requests waiting on my Instagram account.  However, I do like to use the explore page to look for inspirational and or productive posts. I like to see what other people are doing to make a difference in their worlds or how they motivate themselves to get through their day. I may find a nice clothing boutique to shop at or a cool recipe to try while I’m at it.

How do you maintain work/life balance?

This is something that I have struggled with and am currently attacking.  I have a lot on my plate at the moment. I work two jobs, am a full time graduate student, and am in the midst of starting a business along with dealing with the happenings of everyday life. Time management is something that I haven’t been good at because I was an expert at just winging it for so long and being successful. However, as I get older, I find it more difficult to do so. So I have taken up writing. I write every chance I get. I write in a daily planner so that I know what I am doing every day, and I also do a lot of journal/poetry writing. Journal/Poetry writing is something I’ve done since I was a girl but let go of a bit because of how busy I was becoming as I got older. We all know that with a busy schedule, comes much stress and if we don’t make time to release mentally, we will explode. Writing is my mental release, writing is my balance.

What are some of the causes you stand for?

I am a huge advocate of the black conscious movement.  I always have been. This is on every level of the spectrum. (i/e.. Black Lives Matter, Black Women Empowerment, Afro American Education movements…etc) This is mainly because I grew up in an environment where I felt like people of my community would value life differently if they were conscious of who they were and where they come from. This is one reason among many others.

I am also an advocate for mental wellness.  Having a clear mind is important for living an effective and meaningful life. Being well mentally will enhance your physical wellness as well.

Tell us about an embarrassing moment?

I honestly don’t have one in particular. This is only because I am a klutz and am always doing something embarrassing. (i.e. falling down the stairs, laughing and spitting out whatever was in my mouth, dropping everything I pick up as if I had butterfingers.. etc..)

What is your favorite store to shop at and why?

ShopRite! I love to cook and ShopRite has the best sales… Simple, I know. But grocery shopping is a simple pleasure of mine.
