Act Like A Lady Think Like A Boss

Ursula Burns once said, “I didn’t learn to be quiet when I had an opinion. The reason they knew who I was because I told them.”

This past Saturday QueenDem November 12, 2016, attended the Act Like A Lady Think Like a Boss event hosted by Founder and CEO Alexandra Bernard Simmons.

What a great experience to be in a room full of #MelaninGoddesses . There were vendors and speakers there talking about all the things we needed to hear; life journeys, travels, hair and more. While it was a mixture of a shopping and learning it was quite the experience. Alexandra 👸🏾 spoke about her journey on how she got to where she is now and it was inspiring to see someone who looked like us and shared her hardships on the road to nothing but success. She stood proudly on that stage as she opened up to us about her rock bottom moments. We absolutely loved the unapologetic confidence and her drive to guide her fellow sistahs to the same road she was on.

Empowering Cupcakes

Empowered Inspired Gourmet Desserts

One vendor that stood out to us the most was Kureé 🍰 owner and CEO of Sweetly Chique. Kureé specializes in gourmet treats and ladies when we say she showed out girl!
She showed out with her empowered inspired desserts (Of course Tiffany would purchase a Beyoncé-inspired one) Kureé girl if you’re reading this you just slayed it, honey. The cupcakes were so moist and delicious. While Chi enjoyed the Belgian Chocolate covered velvet cake oreos, yes all that in the sweetest little packaging. We loved the event and all the vendors that were there but Sweetly Chique particularly did her thang (don’t act like y’all don’t know how it is when it comes to great tasting food lol.)

Besides all the wonderful vendors, there were speakers. Let’s talk about Barbara E. Hines a psychotherapist with over 34 years of experience. Man oh man, what beautiful knowledge and insight she gave us. She spoke about relationships and building them with yourself and those around you. She even held an all-male panel and asked some significant questions that women asked men but can never seem to get a detailed answer. We must say they held their own in a room of nearly 200 women. Kudos to them for their candid answers.

All in all, it was a successful event we took a lot from it but, what stood out the most to us was the “Invest in Yourself” segment  Alexandra gave us 10 rules to invest in yourself. We felt it was mandatory to list 7 out of the 10 which to us was important to our road to success. We hope while reading these rules in investing yourself it motivates you stand tall and wear a crown in the words of Tiffany, “be a pineapple🍍.” Part of empowering each other is sharing the secrets.

Invest in Yourself

1.Take care of your bodies
2.Focus on your dreams boards, creative spaces, continuously draw inspiration your everyday life.
3.Travel at least once a year
4.Get spiritual
5.Keep learning
6.Be authentic
7.Golden rule- don’t sell yourself short
